Leanne Womack

Author & Illustrator · What Do I Fly? Series

About Leanne

Wife. Illustrator Of The Flight Line.

Leanne Womack writes and illustrates every page of the What Do I Fly? series by hand, from the first pencil sketch of a cockpit to the final coloring of a patch on a flight suit. Her work is drawn from a life spent close to military aviation, where flight lines, deployments, and homecomings are part of everyday language.

What began as a story inspired by her close connection to military aviation and a desire to help young readers understand the work behind the aircraft has grown into a full picture-book series read by military families across the country. Each title focuses on a different aircraft—the Apache, the Chinook, and the Black Hawk—told through a child's-eye view of the cockpit, the crew, and the mission.

Leanne now works out of Ozark, Missouri, publishing through Ozark Printing Press, with more aircraft and more stories already in the sketchbook.

Every patch, panel and dog tag in these books is drawn from something real.
